I burned out at 29.
And it was the best thing that ever happened to me
My story
I’m a dietitian who spent years ignoring everything my own body was trying to tell me. Turns out, that’s exactly what makes me good at this.
I grew up the youngest — and the only girl — with two older brothers. Without even realizing it, I learned early that the way to earn your place was to keep up. Push harder. Do more. Be tougher.
Then I entered a world that validated everything I’d already learned: that productivity was the goal, discipline was the answer, and if something wasn’t working, you just hadn’t tried hard enough yet.
So that’s what I did. I hustled my way through life — and for a long time, it worked.
Until it didn’t.
I had built a life that looked great from the outside. But inside? I was running on fumes. Anxiety that wouldn’t quit. Chronic stress so high it had literally depleted my progesterone to menopausal levels…at 29 years old.
Digestive issues followed, along with a full blown addiction to adrenaline that I kept mistaking for “motivation.” My body was sending me every signal it had, and I had been too conditioned to push through to hear any of them.
I was a textbook case Rushing Woman’s Syndrome. And I had no idea.
Because despite the years of schooling, nobody taught me in grad school that you cannot discipline your way out of a hormonal crisis. You cannot out-supplement chronic stress. And no amount of eating “right” will heal you if the way you’re living is working against your biology.
While all of this was happening, I decided it was time for me to go off birth control. And as soon as I did, something unexpected happened.
It was like my body started coming back online.
COVID had given me an opportunity to slow down and start listening. And the more I paid attention, the more she talked back. Symptoms I’d been ignoring turned out to be communication. The exhaustion, the mood shifts, the anxiety — they weren’t random. They were data. And once I started listening, everything changed.
I stopped trying to override my body and started working with her instead.
I began studying women’s health through a completely different lens — one that actually accounted for the fact that I have a female body, a hormonal cycle, and needs that change every single week. I learned that my cycle wasn’t an inconvenience to manage around. It was a compass.
And that realization changed not just my health — but the way I move through the entire world.
Who I am now.
I’m Carly, a Registered Dietitian and holistic women’s health coach. But more than that — I’m my own first patient.
Everything I teach, I’ve lived. The burnout, the hormonal chaos, the moment it all started to shift. I didn’t find this framework in a textbook. I found it in my own body, and then spent years backing it up with science.
I work with women who are done being handed rules that were never designed for them. Women who are smart, driven, and ready to stop fighting their bodies, and start leading with them.
